Treasure Hunting in Atlanta

1/13/2014

Hello, Everybody!

I'm just getting back from my amazing journey and awesome adventures in Atlanta.  What a successful trip!  As I fly home from Frankenmuth, my mind is racing with visions from the treasure hunt.

It was a great show; this time, finding a lot of "unique and different" items from across the globe.  Some of those treasures came right from our own backyard in Fenton, Michigan.  I was pleased to wander into Peacock Park Design where limited edition antiques and one-of-a-kind pieces abound.  The designer impressed me with her sense of pleasure and delight in the old.  She re-purposes salvaged items and makes  them relevant to the present.  I'm so excited for you to come see all of the beautiful items we have discovered!  You will love the new colors in our silk ribbons, our Batik dyed headbands and Taguanut jewelry.  You will savor the smell of the new scents coming from our soaps from England.  You will stand in awe at the sparkle of our new greenery for Christmas.  I personally never grow tired of it.

I was most impressed by the small company Avatar.  They help to put rescued, exploited female adolescents to work in the sewing trade.  They teach them valuable sewing skills, allowing them to earn money to support their families.  They have taught at least 50 young women to sew.  The designs are just beautiful!

We also purchased shell earrings from Thailand, wrapped bracelets from Zimbabwe, scarves from Nepal, beads from Bali, and, of course, many "Made in the USA" items
.

The most fun of all, was meeting interesting people from the trades who shared my enthusiasm and excitement for the market.  I just can't wait to show it all to you!  Stop by and see us soon.

Happy New Year,

Dee Zehnder
